ERIN FLAVELLE

Erin Flavelle is a Mosaic artist from Saskatoon, Sk.   Growing up in an artistic household full of mosaics made by her grandmother and father gave her an early start in the medium. The majority of her work is influenced from her home in Prince Albert National Park.

Living and working in Northern Saskatchewan provides me with an ideal place to explore. My work is often initiated from an experience, colour or textural idea. It could be a particular tree, pile of rocks or corner of sand on a beach.   The permanence of mosaic as a medium leads to special considerations throughout the process of making. Questions such as the placement and size of the glass or tile I am cutting, colour combinations, and a playful use of materials; the amount of grout used in spacing or leaving areas exposed all play a role in the making of the work.
